I have a leak from my shower and cannot get hold of my plumber. There is an isolating valve above the shower. I know I need to turn this about quarter of the way around to isolate the water, but which way - clockwise or anti-clockwise? Sorry I'm a female and don't want to increase the flow!!

Madmog,

Usually the only turn one way.

But if it does turn either way don't worry, you won't be increasing the flow. Just quater turn it and it will be ok.

at the moment the screw you turn will be in line with pipework fully on , turn it quarter turn so it is cutting flow right off .
