IIRC Crabtree and MK generally have the larger termination capacity.
What is the general state of the old cables? It may be worth having an inspection done. It may be that you need new wiring, before thinking about new sockets!

Don't twist them together!
Chances are the old imperial stranded wires WILL have been twisted together.
You will need to assess if the wire ends are in good nick, or if the ends will need cutting off and re-stripping.
For the purposes of fault finding in the future alone, it's best if they aren't twisted together.
