White-faced hardboard under vinyl tiles?

To save myself the effort of priming hardboard, I was wondering if white-faced hardboard would make a good surface for self-adhesive vinyl floor tiles. Has anyone any opinions or experience with this combination?

Inge - don't! You would be relying on the white skin to remain intact - maybe, maybe not! If you have to seal the hardboard use a radiator roller to apply it - take no time at all.
