Hi
My girlfriend and I bought our first home in January. After a couple of months the white walls, white staircase and cream carpet started to get to us. We like the wooden look, so we decided to sand back the corner pillars and hand rail of the staircase. We made good progress but after two thirds of the way through we found a few of the corner pillars are riddled with white filler.

I’ve done some googling and found some options;

• Wood staining cover up pens
• Remove the filler and add the correctly coloured filler after staining
• Replace the corner pillars completely.

We would be grateful if anyone could advise us of the best course of action.

Thanks.

i personally would find a wood filler nearer to the colour dig out the old stuff
but whatever you do it will still show to some extent

Thanks for your reply.

How would I go about doing this? Is there a better way for removing an unknown filler, then just prizing it out with a tool?

Thanks

You don't need to remove all of the white filler, just enough to put new filler on top
