Hi,

I'm sure it's a common problem but wanted to rack your brains to find out.... 1. how it was caused and 2. how to solve it

My in-laws had a wall built around their property a couple of years ago and every month since it was built white salt looking crystals have begun to form on the wall.

It started small but it's got worse and worse.

Can't easily get photos becuase they live 4 hours drive away - but when I next visit them I could post photos if required. The bricks are a common new red brick (can't remember the name).

Appreciate any help/advice.

Cheers

it's called efflouresence and is caused by salts leaching out of the bricks and mortar when they get damp. Don't be tempted to wash it off with water as you'll only make it worse. Brush it off thoroughly with a stiff brush and it should improve.
