Hope someone with a little more intellegence than me is reading this and can point me in the right direction. I have a Ideal Classic fanned flue gas boiler. It won't come on. Took me an hour last night before i got it working. But today Its not coming on. I switch of mains switch on boiler then switch electricity supply off. Then i switch electricity supply back on and switch the boilers mains switch to on. the boiler thermostat knob is up full to number 6 . I turn room thermo control up ( it clicks ). I turn the heating/hotwater controller on . . i wait 15 seconds and up to 2 minutes bt the bolier does not kick in. I have continued to do this for over an hour and it ain't working. Last week i had someone bleed my radiators. How could this affect by Combi ?

Ideal Classic is normally cconfigured as a heat only boiler although there were variants with a module above to turn it into a combi. So which is it?

If it's a heat only and you have a cylinder does the water work ok?

Have you actually seen the boiler running at all this morning to heat up the water? Otherwise it's possible your hot water is left over from last night.

If the boiler is at least working to heat up the storage tank, the lack of central heating will hopefully be a less difficult problem to fix.

Whats the exact model? What type of system do you have? Do you have a cylinder in an airing cupboard? Do you have any motorised valves? Can you post a pic? blah blah blah blah.

yes storage tank probably got hot water from last night. I have no idea how this works. Does the storage tank hold all water for radiator and taps ? so when i switched whole radiator system on, does the cold water get pumped from the storage tank upstairs, go into boiler unit down stairs, going in through heat exchanger ( which heats water ) and goes to radiators then back through the boiler heat exchanger. So when i switch of the system. Where does all the hot water get pumped to ? Back to the storage tank? so what keeps the water in the tank hot ? Maybe the answer is nothing !! So if i want to have a bath does the cooling water that was going through the radiators earlier(and now back in the tank - cooling down ) .Does that water go back through the heat exchanger and out the taps ? If so how does the tank get more water in ?

With your obviously limited knowledge regarding CH/HW systems, I don't know where to start. Without a basic understanding of heating systems it may be easier to call in a pro.

haahaha

I have no idea how the system works.
Any chance of a quick guide on how it works mate ?

I still don't know what you've got other than a Classic boiler and what you call a tank. Teaching you about how a system works will take ages and I've not done all my shopping! Post some pics as requested.

I think you have probably got a large cold water tank in the loft
ae235

and a small feed and expansion tank
ae235

and a cylinder in the airing cupboard
ae235

which has probably got a thermostat strapped to it
ae235

and you have probably got a pump
ae235

and a 3-port
ae235

or 2-port valve
ae235

and a room thermoststat on the wall
ae235

Is that right?

wife is out with the only phone in the house. Couldnt u give a brief explanation real simple like, is the tap and radiator 2 different systems how does the tank part work. i have storage tank in airing cupboard and boiler unit doestairs. is there 2 hearter ? on in kitchen and one upstairs?

the boiler provides hot water. The pump circulates it. The valve sends the water to the cylinder or to the radiators or to both, subject to calls from the thermostats.

If neither thermostat is calling for heat the boiler will not fire. If the timer or programmer is not set to either HW on or CH on, or both, it will not fire.

When a boiler is trying to fire, it will often whirr or click.

Do you remember when the boiler was last serviced?

no ... i have all that in the airing cupboard not in the loft. How does it work ... 2 seperate systems ? one for tap one for radiators ?

no

one system

the motorised valve sends the heat to whichever needs it.

Monty - I'm not being funny, but you have two hopes ( one of them is Bob) of learning enough about your system from this forum as I have of winning the lottery tonight. For us to give you valid info, you need to provide us with correct info. To save yourself a cold Christmas, call a pro in now before they all put their tools away in favour of a beer. Hope you get it sorted
