Hi,

Sorry if this is an FAQ but I can't find the answer.

I am having a new consumer unit fitted (notifiable work under part P) by an electrician and he is going to test and issue a part P certificate.

Is this all that is required or do I need to obtain permission from LABC before the electrician can do his work?

Thanks,

Isley

He informs his scheme provider and they tell the LABC.

Just check he has current membership.

Just to fill you in on what to expect.

He will install and test and provide an installation certificate that the work complies with BS7671. There is no such animal as a "Part P Certificate".

He then will inform his scheme provider who will:-
1. Notify the local authority that the work has been done & complies with Part P
2. Send you a Certificate of Compliance.
It looks like this:

Yes, its a pity Mr Fatscott & Co didn't send it to everybody 5 years ago so they would know what was going on

I hate the picture on the front - a neon screwdriver :!:

Ok, I'm going to sound really stupid now, but what's wrong with neon screwdrivers?

I'm guessing they're not safe / don't light up when circuit is still live?

I've used them on light sockets in the past after switching off the main switch on the fuseboard

personally i would never use a neon screwdriver.

There seems to be two schools of thought for them;-

1 - chuck the lethal Piece of sh i t in the bin.
2- it has a resistor/fails to Open circuit/ cant give shock blah, blah, etc.

FWIW, im never going to use myself as a guinea pig to test the second thought
