metal accessories, boxes, CUs etc called "metal clad"?

They aren't clad in metal - they're made of it....

Because their strength is being compared with a war ship which before they were made completely of metal were metal clad over a wooden hull.

However I always thought it was a trade name!

The "works" of the accessories are not all metal but have a number of insulating components. Said "works" are available in plastic enclosures, or clad in a metal box. Hence 'metal-clad'.
Simples!

Ban - I really think you need to get out more.....

Mind you I read your post, so maybe the same applies to me!
