Is there a reason why the hot water tap stiffens up and the cold tap always seems ok is it normally a worn washer or does it just need lubricating or do they just tend to wear out quicker than a cold water tap. I have cleaned it out in the past but it always goes stiff after a couple of months but it does seem to turn on and off easier during the summer months. Is a replacement best or does it just need cleaning if so what is the best thing to use.

Many thanks

Several factors may apply - one being deposited limescale and another being expansion of metal due to heat.

depends on the quality of the taps. maybe wearing aswell that won't help.
use some silicone grease on it when you clean it up.
or just fit new insert.

Thanks for the replies the tap is still in good condition and when I take it apart it looks fairly free of limescale but I have never put any lubricant on it just cleaned it in the past so will try some silicone grease

Petroleum Jelly AKA Vaseline does a good job too! :D
