Hi - I wonder if anyone can tell me why my taps sometimes make a noise. It doesn't happen every time, but sometimes when I turn my bathroom taps on there is a loud noise - not a banging like others have mentioned - but more of a screechy sort of noise. It only happens in the bathroom. My house is full of old antique brass taps that don't work terribly well!

The noise stops if I slow the water pressure down a bit.

I think you mean it stops if you slow down the flow, but yeah I see where you're coming from. It's most likely caused by a mixture of loose washers and high pressure. Do you know what your mains pressure is?

Try replacing the washers, and if your mains pressure is very high consider getting a pressure reducing valve.

Hi - thanks - yes I did mean slow down the flow rather than the pressure - we do definitely have high water pressure. I'll try the washers first and see what happens.

Thanks very much.
