Was disgusted to read the following misinformation on a website today.
The suppliers of a self installed broadband ISP camera system gave the following misinformation regarding the non provision of external sirens -
'Well most traditional alarm systems false alarm so external alarm sounders tend to get ignored by burglars. Besides why would you want a flashing beacon on your nice house anyway!'

Many external alarm sounders tend to get ignored by neighbours, and burglars know they can be in and out before anyone comes to check.

Many commercial premises use silent alarms with monitoring and guarding services so that miscreants can be caught in the act.

Ok given that you had a choice between an IP camera which COULD notify you on your mobile
IF your broadband is working and
IF your mains supply is working and
IF your phone can currently pick up a signal and
IF your phone battery isn't dead
Then you could possibly see someone inside your home

and all of the dubious merits above PLUS a siren to notify your neighbours , which would you choose or would you too not want to spoil your nice house with a nasty siren?

point accepted re commercial silent alarms presumably grade 3 and on an approved police response list.
It is worth also noting that the Police only recommend silent alarms if the premises are within reach by a response call.

What I object to is the public being misinformed.

While many alarms do get ignored that certainly doesn't apply to all and certainly not my neighbours.
