Wickes paint

I had the misfortune of having to use their paint the other week.

The builder picked up their water based grey undercoat and a dark green oil based gloss.

4 coats of gloss and I could still see the U/C in places.

On reflection, I should have refused to use it and then got a bus to the local Dulux Trade supplier.

Painted our front door with wickes Buckingham green gloss, came out a treat.
Much better than expected just needed 1 application with a quality soft brush and small roller was last week.

Erm, thanks for the advice... I was using a brand new £13 50mm Purdy Sprig. I don't use rollers for glossing, period.

Which undercoat did you use? Wickes' own grey undercoat is far too "white"for the green gloss that I used. Nevertheless a quality paint would have required 2 top coats.

I am glad that your door worked out, as a professional I do not want to have to apply extra coats to get to a point where I begrudgingly walk away from a job thinking "erm, it still needs another 2 coats".

Dulux Trade would have cost about £5 more nutr would have saved me about £60/80 in labour (when you factor in time to remove door furniture etc).

sorry if my post seems acerbic, my ire is directed at Wickes rather than you.
