The wife just called me all enthusiastically to tell me that she's just put the first coat on our newly plastered bathroom walls.
''How much did you water the paint down by'' I asked.
''Oh, I didn't use paint, I watered down some PVA like when we paint over bits that have been pollyfilled in the bedroom,... that was right wasn't it'' she replied.
Oh well. Whats done is done. Fair play, she was trying.
Can anyone tell me what will now happen if I now apply a 20% diluted emulsion to this? Or what I should do?

Ooer! My wife did the same! We just went ahead and applied undiluted white emulsion - it's still there 3 years later.

To be fair, once PVA had been applied it WAS easier to paint, being less absorbant.

The only time we had problems with PVA was along the line where our plasterer had skimmed the ceiling in two parts. To prevent the new plaster from drying out along the edge of the previous day's work he PVAd the edge. Eventually my wife PVAd the entire ceiling and in the narrow margin where there were two layers of PVA the paint came off in ribbons as it dried! We peeled it off and repainted and it's been fine.

IMHO it'll be fine, it's what I've done for years on newly plastered walls / ceilings. Never had a problem.

Thumbs up to your wife, clever girl :D for applying diluted PVA to the filler, I do this in my jobs on bigish bits of filled areas, and it saves a lot of grief.

And bless her, she was trying to help. :D
