WIFI 9dBi Omni Antenna

Hi I have poor wireless strength for my laptop downstairs in the lounge as my office is up in the attic and for various reasons I do not want to move the wireless router from up there so I was thinking of getting a WIFI 9dBi Omni Antenna from Ebay as someone advised me to try.

Will it make a big difference or will it be a minimal improvement?

Is there anything to watch out for, ie is there a good chance that it could be useless from Ebay or is 9dBi going to give 9dBi no matter which make I buy?

Is there anything better, ie 9dBi seems the biggest?

Any help appreciated.

Here is a guide giving some other options.

If the antenna is low cost (one I saw on ebay when I searched was about £10) then give it a go.

Do try changing your routers channel a few times, it may just be interference.

Also make sure your router is capable of taking an external antenna, many home units don't.
