Any pointers for a change over to Hive.
My boiler is a Profile, the system is a Y plan.
If it's not a straight forward change, what are the wiring mods needed?

Thanks for any info.

Basically you would need to:

1. Connect the Hub to the internet as per the Hive manual.

2. Identify what each of the existing wires going to the Switchmaster is for, by noting what terminal each wire is currently connected to and what it actually does. There should be a diagram showing this information on it somewhere. For example: 'Live' 'Neutral' 'Heating On' 'Hot Water On' 'Hot Water Off'.

3. Once you have worked out what each wire does, then if you look at the Hive receiver, you will find that it has terminals that have the same functions. Connect the wires to the terminals that carry out the same functions as those they came from.

4. Any existing room thermostat will need to be decommissioned to prevent it will overriding the Hive. It can't just be disconnected, otherwise the heating wiring will be 'open circuit' and not operate. It is decommissioned by tracing the wires back from the thermostat and finding their origin. Then disconnect them at origin, and the two terminals where the switching wires came from should be joined together. The neutral, if present can just be disconnected.

5. Mount the Hive thermostat and insert its batteries.

6. Follow the instructions and set up the system via website or app.

Thank you stem for the information and taking the time to post it. Could I, for an easy life, just turn the old room stat up to max?

You could, and it would work. It's not ideal though. I've been to a few homes where that has been done and forgotten about, or the occupants have changed and the old stat has been inadvertently turned down and they thought the heating was broken.

As soon as I posted the easy life post, I knew it would not be the best idea. It would look rather naff and I should have pulled it. You make some good points stem, thanks.
