HELP !

40 year old + Wilson Oilheat boiler , so far :

Burnt hole opposite electrode (now covered with copper plate)
cleaned blocked pipe in motor rotor

Problem, it will fire up from 'igniter' but will not continue burning independently, switches on/off constantly but ceases burning after spark-up !

check that the flue stat is operating correctly,if it dosent turn on the bi-metal probe the boiler will go to lockout.7mins on the control box camshaft.

Your Oilheat will have a Honeywell Protecorelay R487A Control Box, it sounds like the Honeywell Fluestat on top of the boiler is not changing to the run position, is there a big enough flame? it should be blue, with yellow tips, burn on top of the flame grilles, and be about 9"high, Flue gas temp needs to be at least 250'c it does sound like fuel starvation or oil rate on OCV topo low, (you will probably realise No parts are availible for these boilers) but they are one of the few oily's that qualify for £400 scrappage--an insult to a former quality boiler though!!

Problem seems to be the Motor / possibly the bearing ?
Stat is operating, running (noisy) on test at present, engineer coming tomorrow to confirm if motor bearing is wonky !, Cheers

Fluestat is operating, Motor is noisy and tomorrow will be checking bearing, stay tuned in !

No reply from OP suspect the Wallflame is Dead! still at least he'll qualify for £400 Scrappage!!

The Wilson is limping on at the moment, not eager to interfere with the motor this near xmas !
I'll leave it till after Xmas and investigate the options, there is an 'old' expert coming on Sunday who's going to look at it for me, he says the older Wilsons motor sits in the Oil res. and does not have a bearing, we'll see

The Motor does sit in the Oil Res,on bottom of Motor there is a housed ball bearing that sits on a steel thrust pad, these wear and throw the motor off central, thus creating the noise.

When the old expert takes it out, tell him to turn it over and reuse it. Let us know how you get on?

I'll bet the Thrust pad has already been turned over after all this time, the Ball & Cap are probably shot, the Brass Sleeve is probably also shot

While awaiting 'the man' who's offered his help being a friend of a friend ! he lives on the mainland while 'Wilsons' on the Isle of Wight, but he visits on Sunday and will come see ...anyway
The boiler got noisy again and then stopped, so I whipped out the rotor (having seen another engineer taking it out previously) I cleaned the contacts with wire wool, put it back and it's now running, quite quietly ! WOW
I will tell the chap Sunday of your suggestion of turning the Thrust pad over and leave him to do it,and again thanks, Mike
