window blind fixings

I have an 8ft window and am having to attach 3 venetian blinds from the top of the recess area but after drilling 1 cm up, I've come up against the concrete lintel.

I then tried smaller 1cm long screws and cut the rawl plugs down to size - the first fitting stayed securely, the second fitting refuses to!

Should I get one 8ft long piece of wood and try attaching to each side of the recess? Would this hold the weight of the blinds, or would the wood need to be supported in the middle? If so, how??

Any advice greatly appreciated!

I had this problem myself recently, are you sure you have not hit a piece of steel in the lintel. Try drilling further with a twist bit instead of a masonry bit. It worked for me.
