Window Board Covering

Hi all,

I was gutting my house and thought I would save a job by leaving the old window boards in and just imagined I'd get a pvc cover fitted on top of it. Having just had one of the rooms plastered and looking online for something that I can cut down to cover it, I'm finding nothing. It seems the easier thing to do would have been to cut the original board back to brick level and fit a board on top of it. However, I seem to be stuck now with no option springing to mind. Any ideas?

The dimensions of the existing board is 2480mm x 475mm x 45mm. It seems my main obstacle with getting a covering is the 45mm lip I would need.

What's wrong with your existing board? Just remove the covering and paint it?

I was looking at it again last night and thought the same. That covering seems to be about 2mm thick and the front is like a trim that goes around a door frame. I think sand that down and replace the covering (glued down?) should do it. I wouldn't get away with just removing and painting as its just bits of wood stuck together underneath, like a rubbish butchers block.

Painted rough look for the board is possible if you fill the gaps and the pieces don't flex. Alternatively, covering with a piece of floor vinyl with the right pattern or colour is possible.

You can cover or replace the thin ply veneer and pin and glue a nosing/ beading for the lip, wickes do a reasonable selection

Or some 6mm mdf instead of ply veneer if you're looking at a paint finish.

A bit late now perhaps but in a similar bay window I cut the lip off flush to the wall lined the bottom with chipboard furniture panel so a perfect white finish surface I then also sutck the same board to the sides and stuck white perspex to the top the facing edge was then finished off with 30mm d section PVC trim. I put the cut edge of the furniture board towards the window so any rough edge chips from the cut would be covered with a bead of silicone.
