Hello there, I painted the wooden window boards before installing them in various rooms downstairs.

They looked great and the finish was flat, it took a long time but it was worth it (or so I thought).

Then the plasterer came along and skimmed the walls and didn't clean up quick enough. When he removed the skim, it had dried out on to the paint work substantially and it pulled chunks of paint off back to wood.

I really don't want to sand the entire boards back to wood and start from scratch, particularly as sanding would be difficult due to the edges now being integrated with the skim with the end result likely being the skim would get damaged and the paint closest to the skim not being removed evenly.

Is there a way to level out the areas where the paint has been removed? Experience tells me you can't just throw some paint in the gaps, so what else can I do?

Fine Surface filler, there are a number of brands on the market, fill and gradually build up until the surface is level and sand off, then paint.

Thank you for the suggestion, that's what I concluded when I went to Wickes earlier so at least I know that's the right approach.
