Hi all just signed up so hello to everyone . My sister in law has asked me to remove her front lounge window which currently goes all the way down to Dpc level and brick up about twelve courses so she can have a shorter window fitted. We have been unable to find a decent brick match so we are thinking block work and render. My thoughts are I will need to have about 20 mm render and set back by 5 mm so blocks will encroach onto cavity by about half way. I had thought of putting Dpm in cavity and filling with dry lean in this section to allow blocks to be fully bedded. I would appreciate anyone else's thoughts on this job please thanks in advance.

Set the blocks back 10-15mm. It won't matter that the render ends up flush.

Why not go for a contrasting brick and set this back by say 10mm? Render will need maintenance.

Hi thanks for the replies I would rather the render was stepped back a bit as I think this would look better. I like the idea of the 3 inch blocks as this would solve the depth issue would these be standard celcon thermalites etc but in 3 inch thickness? I also like the idea of the contrasting bricks but she has a rendered gable so render may well match in better with this . I am really grateful for the replies as a lot of contemplation has gone on so far as what to do . I think as the brick match has not been too good so far a contrast seems a more pleasing approach and may well look better than a badly matching brick. Thanks again
