window boards are generally plastered in so they need to be fixed prior to plastering, though you can do the backing or dabbing first and just skim them in.
if you are going to dab, then it pays to dab the horizontal area where the window board is going to sit. get it nice and level. you can then use some no-nails or sticks like s**t to stick the window board down, onto the plasterboard, avoiding any fixing holes in the window board. just make sure you fix the window board the next day.
