Window Widening

I want to make my 6 foot external window into an 8 folding door. I'm assuming the only way to do this is by replacing the existing linel. Is this the only way - or is there such a thing as a lintel extension kit? I'm not sure if it's a Catnic or RSJ at present.

You would need to replace the lintel complete (remember to allow for a minimum 6" bearing each end).
Strictly, you should also inform Building Control at your council as it's a structural alteration.
