Should all my metal back boxes have a wire connecting them to the earth terminal on the face plate?

At the moment they don't so if it needs to be done what wire should be used? Just pull the earth from a length of 2.5mm2 and sleeve it?

Another quick question...

I have a wall that is made up of battens screwed to a plastered block work wall which then has 12mm plasterboard attached to the battens. This leaves a 15mm or so cavity from the block work to the back of the plaster board. If I want to put a light switch in there does the cable need to be run in conduit or can the wires just "float" inside the cavity?

TIA

Matt

1) Not covered by a reg,as long as the box has a fixed lug, but considered good practice. 2)OK as long as it stays in the safe zones.
