Hi, i have just bought the Hive hub and thermostat, to replace the Honeywell setup currently from the boiler.

The boiler is a Glow Worm Betacom 24.

I had hoped it would be a simple switch over, but theres only L/N/E to and from the old receiver, and the Hive seems to require 4 core. Is this the case?

Also, where on the boiler do i wire from?

Please help!

Your existing controller is using N, L and a switched Live.
It does not have an earth connection - unfortunately the wires do not know which colours they are supposed to be!

This is something that would not be allowed with current wiring regs, but is acceptable (but not ideal) to keep, as the Hive would be a straight swap.

Assuming single channel Hive:

N (Blue) on the Honeywell goes to N on Hive
L (Brown) to L
NO (Green/Yellow) to 3
Additionally add a link wire between L and terminal 1 on the Hive.

The green/yellow wire should also be oversleeved in brown, to denote it is a switched live.

Thank you so much, what is single channel Hive?

So sorry...

It's a Hive that only controls central heating - rather than one that controls heating and hot water.
Does your receiver have one or two buttons on the front?

No need to be sorry - these things aren't always obvious! :)

Ok, so you can ignore the hot water controls, or try and return it for the single channel (combi) model.

If you want to keep it,
Blue to N
Brown to L
Green/Yellow to 4

And forget about the link wire.

Sorry to sort of hijack this thread but I have a similar problem. I currently have a Honeywell ST9400C which has wires to L, N, 3 & 4. I want to upgrade to a Hive V3, is it just a case of swapping like for like. I don't currently have any thermostats just TRV's on all the radiators.
