I have one of these, see below for photo. I'm removing the heater but for now leaving the socket. I note it has its own fuse, is it preferable to take this out or leave it in since the socket is still live just with nothing wired in to turn on/off?

It doesn't matter. It won't affect the socket either way.
As long as you're not leaving that flex dangling out of the spur then you'll be fine.
