Hello

My CH thermostat is in the wrong place so to save me ripping the house appart to move it is there any way to change the thermostat to a wireless one so i can put the tempature sensor somewhere else.

Thanks

Yes. you can do that although, depending on your boiler and the existing timer, it might be better to install a wireless programmable thermostat.

Can you post info about:

Boiler - Make and exact model;
Timer/Programmer;

If you have a hot water cylinder, is there a cylinder thermostat (on the side)?

Pics might be helpful. :wink:

I have a Potterton promax sl boiler, Danfoss 7 day controller with a danfoss TS2 thermostat in the lounge. The hotwater cylinder is a megaflow system.

So if there is a way of changing the thermostat to a RF receiver would be easier.

Thanks

Danfoss 7 day controller with a danfoss TS2 thermostat in the lounge.
The TS2 is not a thermostat; it's a remote sensor which supplies temperature info to the Danfoss programmable thermostat. Danfoss do not make a wireless version of the sensor.

Why do you think the TS2 is in the wrong place?

The TS2 sensorIi beleve has been put in the wrong place as I live in a new build 3 story town house and the sensor was put in the first floor lounge which is approx 4X6M and behind a door.

The lounge gets too hot when both of us are in the room with the telly ETC on so the heating knocks off then the rest of the house is cold. I have had to put the heating setting upto 26 deg just to make sure the heating goes back on to heat the rest of the house up.

So if I can get a wireless temp sensor and put the receiver unit in place of the current sensor then I will be able to locate it in a better place to control the house tempature.

Where is the Danfoss controller located? If it's in a more central place you could just disable the remote sensor and rely on the internal sensor in the controller. You would have to make a change at the programmer to disable the remote sensor; it not just a case of disconnection it. Details are in the installation manual.

As I said, Danfoss do not make a wireless sensor for your programmable stat.

You say it's a new build house. How old is it? Since 2006 Building Regs have required all houses to be in at least two zones with separate temperature controls. If over 150m² total floor area they also need separate timers.

The controller is located next to the boiler in the downstairs cloakroom.

The house was built in 2011 but I have no idea what the sq meterage is.

Looking at it I think my best bet would be to replace the controller to a wireless system.

I know Danfoss do a wireless system so hopefully I can change it without too much problems.

Then it should have been zoned to comply with Building Regulations.

It might be a good idea to contact Building Control at your local council and ask them why they approved a single zone when BR require two.

Floor area is only important if it's over 150sq.m as you then need separate timing on each zone as well as separate thermostats.

Thanks for this.

I'm now looking at going down the building regs thing with the builder. I have also spoken to NHBC and they will take up my case if I get no joy with Bovis.

I'm now waiting for Bovis to get back to me after they visited me but the best response I've had so far is "the heating system has been installed as designed".

Well it looks like they have done it wrong to me. :D

I might have a chat with the council to see what they say.
