Home Automation might be too grandiose a term for this, so let me know if you think it's best moved to Electrics...

I've got an external led garden light wired back to the garden shed. I'd like to be able to control that one light fitting wirelessly.

I appreciate that there's a wealth of technologies out there, but I'm just after something really cheap and cheery. Control from a smart phone would be nice, but it's really not essential.

All suggestions appreciated.

I used two of these to control my LED garden lights. I mounted them inside the shed and plugged in the LED light power supplies. Works a treat.

If the socket is outdoor, then you could use this.

I would say problem is price, EasySwitch, Zwave, Mihome, X10 and many more are able to wirelessly control lamps, however you need two or three bits to do it, often we combine it with something else, in my case central heating and a socket supplying an alarm are both controlled with MiHome.

You are looking at £100 with most systems, and one has to ask if using a 13A socket with a 13A remote switch is really the best option. I have a Lidi plug in remote controlled sockets set, two dimming two on/off with a small remote control, they do work well, however the problem for me was thinking I had switched it back on, but for whatever reason it had not. The MiHome remote socket also has three timed on/off functions so if I do forget then auto switches on at next timed event.

These are designed for lights but to my mind expensive for simple on/off.
