can someone tell me where the grey hot water off gets wired to,.
thanks john

got sent to a job to change the head today, but its turned out to be wiring problems.

Working from the valve back, the grey becomes two wires in the terminal box. One goes back to the programmer to the HW OFF terminal. The other goes back to the 'satisfied terminal' of the cylinder stat.
When CH only is called for, the actuator picks up the power from the grey wire to move it forward. This only occurs when HW is not called for.
Which means either HW is not on ie its OFF or if it is on then HW is satisfied. hence it switches power at the cylinder stat.
:roll:

cylinder stat is like two way switch. One live feed in from programmer HW ON, but two switched live outputs (not at the same time) One direct to boiler and one to grey wire on valve. thats 3 wires so the 4th may well be a earth.
:roll:

iv managed to sort all the ch side out all works as it should. wall stat, boiler lights, and switches on of from wall timer. problem iv got is when water is switched on at prog timer it sends the motor over to ch. cylinder stat works ok boiler is coming on of at temp.

When HW is selected and called for, the grey wire cannot be live, so valve can not move beyond mid point.
It can only do that if HW is satified or if HW is OFF.
Also for valve to get to mid point from HW only, the white wire must be live and this comes from the roomstat and for that to happen CH must be switched on at the programmer.
:roll:

yeah iv got the white wire correct cause when i switch heating on and off the valve moves correctly. its just when i put the water only its still sending the motor over for ch but cylinder stat and bolier work ok

honeywelll wires white = heating on
grey = hot water off
orange = boiler and pump live
blue = neutral
green yellow = earth

on my cylinder stat iv got 4 wires from the stat. red blue black green. should the grey go to the live.

The wire colours from the cylinder stat are NOT a dependable way of finding out what they're connected to inside the stat! Take the cover off and look!
