wiring a pull cord 4 core and 3 core wires

Are you sure the 3c colours are correct?
How I'd do it, n.b. (2c) = 2core+earth and (3c) = 3core+earth
Both earths to the earth terminal sleeved yellow+green
Black(2c) and Blue(3c) (or black?) together in a spare terminal block.
Red (2c) and Red (3c) together in Com
Yellow (3c) in L1
If light stays on, swop red(3c) and yellow(3c) over.

thanks for replying, we're in the loft now, thats what we thought, and yeah sorry the black was meant to be blue colour, thanks again, will let u know how we got on...!!

the pull cord switch works (turning on lights & fan) , but the fan isn't staying on after the we pull the cord to turn the lights out, before the fan used to still be on for a few mins... any ideas?

Could be the permanent live and switched live wires have been swopped over at the fan? With a multi-meter can you check the permanent live and switched live at the fan?

hi thanks again for replying...
we cant get to the fan at all front/side or back so if assuming they have been swapped, what can we swop over at the pull cord switch.
Ps... running out of light rapidly...!!!

If you swop at the pullcord the light may stop on permanently, but worth a try just to see if this solves the problem with the fan. On the 3core + earth in the pullcord, try swopping the red and yellow cores, i.e.
Red (2c) and yellow (3c) together in Com
Red (3c) in L1

just tried this and both the light and fan came on and went off together.
so same result!
anything else?

So with the wiring configured one way around, does the light stay on permanently i.e. can't be switched?

the light and fan goes on and off - when we have it setup like:

Both earths to the earth terminal sleeved yellow+green
Black(2c) and Blue(3c) together in a spare terminal block.
Red (2c) and Red (3c) together in Com
Yellow (3c) in L1

and the light and fan goes on and off when we have it setup like:

Both earths to the earth terminal sleeved yellow+green
Black(2c) and Blue(3c) together in a spare terminal block.
Red (2c) and yellow (3c) together in Com
Red (3c) in L1

Can you check with a multimeter in the switch which wire is the permanent live?
When you say 2way switch do you mean you have two switches, or you have just brought a switch which is two way and want to use it as a single way?

What happens if you put 2c red into L1 and both 3c yellow and 3c red into com? When you say 2way switch do you mean you have two switches, or you have just brought a switch which is two way and want to use it as a single way?

Yup, just wanted to clarify the circuit isn't 2way.
What happens if you put 2c red into L1 and both 3c yellow and 3c red into com?
