Hi All, Just moved house I have a conservatory with existing wiring from the original strip light. Black Red and Earth on main wire which I presume is the mains lead ( previous owner a bit of a bodger ) and the separate Black Red and Earth lead down to the single off/on switch. Not sure what I am doing wrong as the circuit breaker trips off when I turn the power back on. I have a circuit tester bur not sure how best to check things without blowing myself up!

Any help most welcome, Mant thanks,
Rod

Who is bodging

Typical error by the sound of it.

Both reds into a terminal block ON THERE OWN - not connected to the light terminal block.

Black from supply to neutral in light.

Black from the switch to the live in light. Sleeve this black with some red sleeve.

Earths as expected.

Hi Many thanks to the kind person who so promptly replied to my request for help. All is well, getting a suntan from the new spotlight!!! Again thank you for concise clear directions as to what to do.

Kind regards.

Rod

I think they should put a little sticker on light fittings:

"If you are expecting just three simple wires, and all of the colours meaning the same thing, just put down the screwdriver and ring someone"
