I have a PIR lantern that was removed from outside our house when our new conservatory was built. I want to use this again but am not sure of the wiring for it. The lantern has a 2 core cable coming out of it (brown and blue wires), a red wire and a green and yellow earth wire. I would assume that the earth, brown and blue wires connect to the same in our mains circuit but am not sure what the red wire should connect to. Any ideas?

The connections should be brown to live, blue to neutral and grn/yellow to earth.
The lantern will have some internal wiring and unless this was disconnected there should be no need for an additional red wire. So check first and see where that red wire is coming from. Usually the only other reason you would have an extra wire is if it were connecting two lamps up at the same time.
