Hi, could anyone help please?..I am trying to connect an outside PIR to an inside wall switch, without much luck!

I have isolated at the CU, connected the cable from the appliance to a new wall switch, live to the bottom screw, neutral into a plastic connector and earth the switch brass connecting point. The cable going from the switch, (I connected this cable to the switch= live to top of the switch, neutral to the plastic connector and earth to the earthing point). Ran the cable from the the switch to a spare 'slot' in the CU, live into the live feed, neutral to neutral and earth to earth. Switched it on at the CU, all it did was to trip the CU switch!?

I would really appreciate it if anyone could offer some guidance.

PS...could you also recommend what cable I should be using.

Many thanks

H

What is written on the device which is tripping? Does it have a test button?

The wiring in the switch is probably correct. Therefore either the light is faulty, or you have connected it to the wrong terminals in the consumer unit.

Bit late for that, as you have already installed the circuit. If you are in England or Wales, this is notifiable work.

when you say 'cu switch' do you mean rcd? is there more than one neutral bar in the cu? perhaps you have connected to the wrong neutral bar.
