Hello
Wanting to run a new line from the Consumer Unit into a room that will have two pendant lights, each to be turned on/off/dimmed from a new face plate that has two dimmer controls, one for each pendant light.

Have run the cable from the CU into the room and down into the 1st pendant fitting. Now what do i need to do. Explanation for the novice please.

Essentially, each pendant will require a neutral, CPC and 'live' wired to it. The live connection at the pendant is taken from a series connection at the dimmer between the live from the CU and the ongoing live to the pendant.

What size cable have you run and what capacity is the fuse/MCB at the CU ?

Should you consider getting an experienced hand to lend you a hand on this, in person?

Very good diagrams on the WIKI at the top of this forum....

Come back and ask more if you dont understand after looking at these.

unless you are in scotland, then this work is notifiable under part P of the building regulations and should have been notified to them prior to comencing work..

and thripster, that is a **** poor explanation ...

see this wiki page

you need to run a live cable from the CU to the light, then to the next light

from each light to the dimmer you need to run a twin and earth for the switch wires..

brown in the switch wire will go to live in the light ( in the "loop" terminal of the ceiling rose, with the brown from the "live" cables..

blue in each switch wire will go to the brown wire from the pendant. ( must be sleeved brown at both ends to indicate switch wire.. )

blue from each "live" wire to the blue wire in the pendant

at the dimmer, the brown wires go into the COM terminals, and the blue ( sleeved brown ) into the L1 terminals..

earth wires sleeved in green and yellow to the earth terminals
