I'm an electrician and so don't do much with telephones apart from the basics.
I've been asked to wire in a "Bedlam Loud Tone Caller" to some ones phone system.
Have done this as per the instructions, however when I connect sounder in phone line shows as engaged. As soon as I disconnect sounder phone line works as normal.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Creedo

You wire the sounder between pins 3 and 5 in the line jack sockets, not across pins 2 and 5.

If there's not already you will need to install a master line jack socket with a ringing capacitor.

Without the capacitor in series with the ringer the ringer is causing a DC short across the line.

Thanks for that, I'd just worked it out, it is a master socket and I have wired in to 2 and 5 not 3 and 5.
Thanks again

Any idea what value capacitor is used here
