Yes, everything will work as the neutral and earth are connected back at the electric companies transformer or at your service head (I'm thinking you will have a TN system and no RCD protection as if it was TT then it should have tripped the required RCD).
It isn't good though as the earth is often smaller than the neutral so wants sorting ASAP. Also an open circuit fault can cause the metalwork to become live.
