What was the resolution to the 2-way-switch-that-couldn't-be?

Presumably this:

I could have sold the idea of two way off a T & E cable for a lot of dosh!!

means that everyone was right all along, and it wasn't working as a 2-way, because if it was, selling the idea wouldn't have been a rip-off, would it?
