Wiring layout

Although I could it myself, what I ought to do is pay a qualified electrician to re-route the wiring we see in the pictures, from where it is, into the channel on the left.

I'm just wondering how much it would cost me to pay certified electrician.

The current consumer unit needs moving a bit. What I'd do is put in some new trunking to the right of the consumer unit. And I'm thinking about putting in a tray that will run along the channel. Not neccessary but that is what I'd like.

So, the electrician would:

* Disconnect all wiring into the consumer unit and take it out of the current channel between the joists.

* Relocate the consumer unit a few inches so it's aligned with new trunking that is there.

* Take the wiring and re-routing it into the channel on the left, probably affixing it to a tray.

* Reconnecting the wiring at the consumer unit.

So, anyone know what would be a reasonable price for the work as described? I live in West Yorkshire. Thanks.

I was going to say it would be virtually impossible.

Of course, it would not actually be impossible but very lengthy and a complete waste of time and effort.
It would be easier to reroute the pipes but just as unnecessary.

You are worrying needlessly.

I would just tidy it up...

I used some 6" pieces of 1mm 3core and earth folded in half, and nailed into the side of the joist with a felt roofing nail (Nice wide head). Every 2 - 3ft would be fine

It will keep the cables all in the same place and away from the cables

As was said early on, I don't think that is really necessary - there are probably millions of homes out there with similar,or worse. It would be worth doing what you easily can to keep the cables and pipes as far apart as is possible (and maybe have something done about any cables which are actually 'wrapped around' pipes) - but I would personally probably do no more than that.

Kind Regards, John
