I have moved into a house where there is lights on piers in the garden and the wire runs inside the piers. Looks like it is normal inside wire. I have been told that the lights are wired up with the wrong cable. I want to replace the cable, what cable should I use. The cable will run along the piers, beams and side of house, will not go into the ground.
Can someone help.

What do you mean?

I have been told that the lights are wired up with the wrong cable.
Who told you?

Did they tell you what sort of cable it is?

Did they tell you that replacing the cable is notifiable?

I want to replace the cable, what cable should I use.
How long is the cable?

How many lights are there?

What is the load of each light?

What type and size of cable can you terminate in the lights?

Who told you? the surveyor? the bloke who did the electrical report?

Did they tell you what sort of cable it is? T+E (normal indoor cable)

Did they tell you that replacing the cable is notifiable? well does it sound like it?

I want to replace the cable, what cable should I use.

you'll have to excuse ban's questionning, i sometimes think he'd make a good candidate for mastermind - special subject "the bleedin' obvious"

You will need Steel Wire Armoured cable, which needs to be terminated properly in adaptable boxes, with a smaller wire, usually arctic flex or hi-tuff, going into the lights. Terminating SWA is a bit of a skill, something best left to electricians.
