Hello chaps. I'm useless with electrics but am having a go at installing my new ceramic (non induction) hob. Having disabled the mains for the hob at the fuse box, I've removed the wires from the old hob.

According to the instructions, I've screwed in a couple of jumpers bridging two neutral holes and two live holes. I believe I've done that correctly? But am I meant to feed the wires in the same holes as the jumpers and if so, under or over the jumpers?

I believe I have a 32 amp fuse as my old hob needed 25 amp and the new hob needs 30 amp. So can I assume I should follow the single phase connection?

Also, the black wiring connector box on the new hob is a different position from the old one, it's at the front of the hob instead of the back which makes it a bit awkward. So I'm hoping the power cable will reach it but it might be a stretch.

Here's some photos from the instructions and of the hob. Thanks.

Thanks Andy. Problem I'm having now is that the flex power cable doesn't quite reach the hob terminals from the normal way of doing it on the worktop and across the hole, but they do reach from underneath once the hob is sitting in the hole. But it's too difficult for me to wire it up and put the jumpers in from under the worktop. How do you mean links go at the bottom? I assumed
I had them correct according to the diagram?

You asked if the wires go under or over the jumpers. So I said over. But however you consider it best.
If you have a square plate outlet on the wall where the cable immerges then pop down to b and q and pick up some 2.5mm (or 4 or 6) heat resistant flex black cable. HO something to go between wall and hob
Eg.

If you don’t have one, get one to join it.

Eg.

And a deep box for it to go on eg 30 to 47mm

A bit like this

Yes, sorry Andy, I misunderstood 'Links go at the bottom', I thought you meant they're both to go into lower terminals, but you meant underneath the wires.
I don't have a square outlet, and unfortunately that's all beyond my diy ability.

EFLImpudence, I still can't get it to reach and the hob is in a very precarious position like that standing on it's end on a less than 2 inch ledge of worktop next to the hole for the hob.

Just one other thing. When it's wired in, the thick grey flex cable will be running along the back to the front of the underside of the hob and I think it's going to be sagging a bit. What's the best way to sort of pin the cable flush to the hob so that my top cutlery drawer doesn't graze against it when I open it?

By the way, in that image you posted, the hob will be 180 degrees the other way, the black terminal block can't be wired in the orientation your image shows. And that's why I'm struggling to get the wires to reach.

That is a different matter then - BUT are you sure?

That would be most unusual and very bad design.

It's a very bad design. My old hob has the terminal block at the back of the hob, but this one is at the front.

And from underneath, the the terminal block with lid hanging down at the front. You can see it'll reach from underneath but once the hob is leaned against a wall, then the lead doesn't reach. Well I can't make it reach, probably yourself and others here would be able to do it. I could turn the hob around and have the touch controls at the back, but not very practical! I tried. I figured out how to wire it up and was all set to do so but have fallen at the last hurdle. I've had to throw the towel in. I've got an electrician friend coming on saturday, used to do work for my mum. He's going to do it for me, not at sparky rates though. I really don't like that cable trailing all the way across the underneath of the hob.

If it was me I would take it back and reject it as not suitable for purpose and get another model.
