wiring of a 2port motorised valve

Strange cos I thought there would be either 4 or 2.
I know - that's exactly why I'm putting you straight.

The pipes are not 28mm, they are 22 and pumped
Well then, it's been installed wrongly, so all bets are off.

got the HW working by another draindown and refill.
Oh jeepers. :(

I do not want to close down the downstairs rads cos if I move the 40yr old lockshields they will no doubt start leaking and then I've got another job on my hands.
Then don't shut off the lockshields - use the wheelheads. :?

Or, if you're not going to follow a systematic approach, how are you ever going to (a) work out what's wrong, and (b) fix it?

The 15mm is a return I presume cos it aint hot, just tepid
Presuming, or assuming, or any form of reasoning where a pipe is going to or coming from, is unwise. You need to know things about your system, not guess at them.

If I shut down the wheel heads, it's the same thing (not been touched since 1970, so if they're closed down n then reopened they're bound to start weeping).

Have been round there yesterday n he's got the lot (HW and CH).....except the brand new radiator I fitted in the downstairs bathroom don't work (1970's 15mm pipes that drop to rad not warm) can I fit a second pump to force the water into this? the pipe run to it is all in 15mm, it travels 3ft horizontal, 8ft vertical, 30 ft in upstairs joists n then drops 8ft to the double rad (rad valves both fully open).

OK then. Since you don't like using valves, then just remove them and replace with pipe - then they'll never 'weep'.

Yeah, why not. That way you won't have to do anything complicated like shut a valve.

If the system has long runs of smallbore pipework, why would you expect it to work properly?
