What is the recommended size of wire for wall lights 1mm or 1.5mm?

Thanx

protected by 30amp fuse.

cable run length about 4/5 meters.

1mm or 1.5mm cable?

thanx

NO

What on earth are you doing with a 30A lighting circuit? Lighting a theatre? Or are you just mad?

not long moved into the house.

on fuse for downstairs lighting says 30amp.

i aint mad cos i didnt put it there, just looked to see what i had, to reply to the question "whats protecting the cable"

what should it be?.........thought this was a advise forum, just slaggin off then not bothering to say what it should be is not cool at all.

thanx

Should be 5A or 6A. In some circumstances it might be 10A. This would not be usual in a domestic installation but might be used in a large office with many lamps.

Lighting switches and lampholders are mostly safe up to 10A but some (e.g. lamps for small bulbs) are only safe to 5A.

A lighting circuit should not be fused at 30A. this is not safe.

A 5A or 6A fuse is sufficient for about 12 100W bulbs, or, if you have a chandelier, about 50 25W bulbs, or if you use energy-saving lamps, about 62. If they will not all be switched on at the same time, rather more. This is ample for most houses, especilly as it is usual to have an upstairs lighting circuit and a downstairs lighting circuit.

thanx for the advise John, do i just remove the 30amp fuse and put a 5amp fuse in its place..........straight forward as that?

im glad i checked.

so when i put a 5 amp in tomorrow, what size cable for my wall lights 1mm or 1.5mm?

thanx

both are fine - match it to your existing if I where you.

Depends on the area your in - westcountry seems to be predominantly (as in 99%) 1mm for domestics.
