Newly in house and only 2 of the 4 'rings' work on the hob. Checked supply feed and original supplied with the appliance with black, brown and two blue cables along with earth, replaced with standard live, neutral and earth, seemingly switched from old cooker direct onto the halogen (original slung down the back). Is this likely to be the cause of fault and if so anyone any ideas on locations for the original 5 cables ( earth obvious), there are 6 numbered 'ports' on the hob. Standard UK 240 v supply. No user handbook left. Many thanks

thanks for that however manual states that

''it is equipped with pre connected electricity supply cable'' and doesnt actually show the connections at the hob end - as taking them off invalidates the warranty according to the manual later. Typical manufacturer !!!

The instructions say : the hob comes provided with a pre-connected cable wired for single phase.

It can't be that hard, can it?

EDIT, damn you, Robb, Too slow.

EDIT 2. Have a look at the manual per the link above.
It tells you
Two blues together = neutral
Black & brown together = live
Yellow&green = earth

Simples!

too simple seemingly for my frazzled brain...

Who could tell, only Indesit or an Indesit specialist. Have you connected it up per the instructions?

This is the electrics forum. If there's power at the outlet and its connected up as the MIs then its the appliance that's faulty. As an electrician my interest ends there. I dont fix hobs, vaccuum cleaners, dishwashers or TVs.

Maybe you should be asking on the appliances forum?

don't people read anymore?
he already said that the factory fitted cable has been taken off and the existing cable from the old hob fitted to it instead.... with the factory cable being left behind the unit..

yes this would cause the fault since only half the hob is getting power..

if you could post us a photo of the connections we could advise further..

OK, from the manual.

Link 1, 2 & 3 together. That's the live

Link 4&5 together. Thats neutral

6 is the earth

Suggest u ignore the 5 core cable and connect as above.

col, you got the crux of my problem. Good idea about the pic, will try to get one posted, thanks

I cannot make out from the picture how the links fit.

Also, I cannot add to what was said previously.

Sorry posted this in the wrong thread. (I'll leave it now as it's essentially the same problem the OP had but with a photo).

Not sure if you were able to see the picture clearly or not. The wiring is in place and I think that is in the correct place. I'm not sure about the copper horseshoes though. Two rings are working so I think an adjustment is required just not sure what.
