Hi everyone,

I would like to get this installed myself with some help from you all.

I currently have an Ideal Classic RS50 on a Y-Plan, a Honeywell ST7100 programmer and a thermostat in the hall.

I will attach some pictures for you. I think the first thing I need to do is somehow figure out which cable is the thermostat and bridge that off at the wiring connector box next to the hot water cylinder?

It's certainly something you need to do. The cable to the thermostat has 3 cores, Red, Yellow, Blue. Looking at the photo you have posted of the thermostat connections:

Red = Live
Yellow = Switched Live
Blue = Neutral

The thermostat cable should be traced from the thermostat back to its origin. When you find it, note where the wires are connected and remove the cable. Then insert a wire to join together the two terminals where the Red and Yellow wires have just been removed from. You need to trace the cable because, unfortunately, there is no set way to install these systems and the point of connection can vary from installation to installation. Also, whilst there is a nomenclature in the wiring centre lid not all installers follow it to the letter, so be careful.

Then it's a matter of moving all of the wires from the terminals of the Honeywell ST7100 to the Hive terminals [you need the dual channel version.] that have exactly the same function.

You can ignore the existing links between the ST7100 Com terminals and the Live, because Hive has this connection made internally already.

The three terminals at the bottom of the Honeywell ST7100 marked 'Spare' are exactly that. They have no function as regards the programmer and are just handy spare terminals.
