Wonky tap does not add character... according to my wife

I renovated a bathroom with no experience.
Everything went fine except when I installed the tap it was wonky. I cant understand how this happened. New worktop (laminate), everything was level.
What is the problem / resolution?

Tap hole to big, did the tap come with a adapter

Damn. I thought I drilled it quite snug.
Could it be anything else?
Any other possible fixes?

If the worktop is square and flat then the tap has pulled itself down into the hole when tightening, check the bracket underneath too. If it's uneven at the top then buy a large S/S washer that will fit the tap shroud but be a larger OD so it doesn't pull down into the hole.
