We have just had a new oak floor fitted onto a concrete floor (glued). The majority of the floor is solid however one area of approx 1m square flexes when walked upon, indicating it bridges small high points on the floor. The fitter has suggested screwing the wood into the concrete in that area and capping the screws. Is this a suitable solution?

NO!

It will not solve the problem and only cause more! What a suggestion!

Are you sure the underfloor is higher and doesn't dip there creating the flex? If there's a dip and your fitter suggest to put some expanding foam in there: fire him on the spot!

He should have noticed when glueing the floor down that there was a problem and should have solve it there and then. Now he has to redo that area and make sure the rest of the floor is not effected (or damaged)
