Hi all,
We've stripped back the old 1970's banister from this fire reddish yellow hints in a very high gloss varnish. And after a bit more work and sanding I think we will keep this rather than replace the hand rail top.
However we quite like how it looks now after having much paint stripping and sanding back. We've found its not a dark wood as originally thought but light wood stained, then it was varnished heavily.
We would almost like something we can coat on to this to be durable yet not really change the colour from how it is now. We almost want a clear/natural finish be it a wax/oil/varnish that's almost invisible so its not really known to be on there.
See pics of before and after.
Any thoughts would be great Cheers!
