Hi,

I was hoping someone may have an opinion on this.

Would wooden facias, White wood grain UPVC windows and black guttering look unsightly or would it look ok on a house.

I am doing an extension. I have white windows and can't afford to change the lot to wood although I would love to. Want to have new wooden facias as they need changing and have black gutters.

Any opinions on this. Maybe someone has this or knows someone. Cheers, olas.

Out of interest, why aren't you considering white plastic fascias? Save you the hassle of painting/repainting. Blacke guttering will all look fine with white elsewhere.

i personally think black guttering on white fasia looks better that white guttering

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I meant wood and kept the origional wood colour. Probably a darkish stain.

:D

Not my choice of colours to be honest. Prefer black or white fascias. Whatever you stain it with, you will need to apply some clear lacquer (yacht varnish springs to mind) to prevent water damage.

There are several groups of modern (mid 90's) council homes on my route to work and they were designed with stained timber frames, fascias etc and brown cladding to dormers, and had brick in complementary shades with contrasting details and pointing. They looked quite nice.

The clowns at the council then went and replaced the windows, fascias and cladding with white plastic, but only random doors were changed.

So now, all these houses look like someone just scavenged a load of random end of line materials from various sites and then threw them all together. They look a right mess - especially when you see neighbouring ones which have been presumably bought off the council and the owners have given thought to replace with brown plastic or just keep the timber stained

Anyway, back to the OP ...... it all depends on the style of house as to what goes with what. Generally, light frames will go with light or dark fascia, but dark frames wont go with light fascia. Black gutters will go with anything

Do you know plastic fascia does not just come in white these days? You can get it in wood effect

Fascias and gutters are better in black, as white plastic looks awful and dirty after a few months

We have the house shown in our album;

We had the windows and doors replaced going from brown wooden to white UPVC, but only the fascia of the box window, not the eaves fascia under the top gutter and the garage gutter. I find the brown fascia around the box window ugly.

I wonder whether simply replacing the brown around the box window would be enough, here is my best photoshop of what it might look like;

I'm considering getting all the brown wood replaced by white UPVC, and wonder whether a someone who calls themself a "builder" should be capable, or whether this is a specialised job which only fascia/guttering companies should do?

The contact we know did a great job decorating for us, and is a nice bloke, just wonder whether we should pay slightly more and get someone in with specific experience in fascias etc?

Cheers, Tony
