I would like to build a large 5m x 0.3m oak sleeper trough on my brick pavior driveway.

I have in mind to line the trough with weed membrane to stop soil leaching onto the driveway. Would this be effective?

I've also thought of removing a few of the paviors under the trough for drainage but would this cause the sand under adjacent paviors to get washed away? Would it be better to let the water find its way over the surface of the paviors which has a natural fall to a French drain? I could cut some weep holes along the bottom edge of the trough for this purpose.

The trough will abut my neighbour's drive so I need to make sure there will be no contamination.
