Hello,

I am looking at some woodworking books and wondering if people had any recommendations. As I am getting into it more and more I am looking at improving my knowledge overall to learn new techniques and skills.

I have had a quick look around book shops in my local town center but nothing really caught my eye on the small array they had so I came home and had a look online and found teh following:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Woodwork-S...405332069/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hyltons-Ul...558707964/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

https://www.amazon.com/dp/0955793505?tag=vs-home-convert-amazon-20

And wondered what peoples thoughts on the above were or if they had any other recommendations?

Thanks

James

Try "The Woodworkers Bible" by Alf Martensson. Written more than 40 years ago by a professional woodworker it covers a lot of aspects of furniture making and interior work. Not flashy, but filled with loads of info and aimed at a wide spectrum of readers. What's more Alf was a Brit and the book uses Brit terminology and avoids cheap American short cuts, Bill Hylton is probably the best Yank on the subject of routing - an acknowledged expert, and rightly so, but I'd avoid a lot of American books on the grounds that they are often thin on technique, poor on safety and use terminology which isn't appropriate to the UK

Thanks for the advice. I do watch YouTube videos on how to do things but I tend to watch quite a lot and then go for what is most common which may or may not be the correct way of doing things however previous experience has shown it seems to be OK. With Woodwork it could be the wrong way but I don't know.

I have had a look at the book you mention however I cant seem to see whats included in it such as does it cover things such as tools, techniques, joining wood etc?

Thanks

James

It's fairly comprehensive with a fair bit about setting up a workshop using basic power and hand tools. Aimed at amateurs and budding pros alike

Cool I will have a look for it when I am next in the city centre. :) what is the trend one like? And are there any more you would recommend?

Thanks

James

So what books would people recommend for routing? I know @JobAndKnock said to stay away from US books so what UK based books would you recommend on routing and the use of a router table?
