Wool on Gas Fire

Hello,

We have inherited a gas fire in a house we have purchased. We don’t use it and don’t intend to. Today I removed the coals because my son keeps trying to pick them up and found this wool at the bottom…. Can I remove it? Again - we don’t intend to use this…

Yes ,put gloves on and bag it .And have the gas isolated if not using
